Trick or Treat?

Fall is one of my favorite times to buckle down and focus on nutrition goals. So many of my clients are crushing it right now. And then… comes Halloween. It’s right around the corner, the holiday that can throw even the most motivated individual off track! You heard it here, you don’t have to abstain from candy, you just have to limit it (1-3 fun-size snacks is my recommendation). Want to go a step further? Swap out those old favorites for healthier and cleaner options that are widely available and, dare I say, just as delicious without artificial colors! Below, I’ve listed a few of my “go-to” candy alternatives that hit the spot. Remember, holidays last ONE day, so don’t celebrate this one all week!

• Love Reese’s peanut butter cups (10g sugar/cup)? Instead try BTR Nation Dark Chocolate Snickerdoodle Almond Butter Cups (90% less sugar, no artificial anything)

• M&M’s (>15 ingredients;  9 artificial colors) are your favorite candy?! Check out Hu Kitchen’s chocolate gems (4 ingredients; 0 artificial colors). Enough said.

• Prefer sour over sweet? Swap Sour Patch Kids (184 calories/32 g of sugar) for Smart Sweets (100 calories/3g of sugar). Say goodbye to that sugar high and the artificial flavors too.

• A Mounds or Almond Joy lover? Ocho chocolate bars (FairTrade, Organic, Plant-based) are pure chocolate coconut goodness.
